Heroes – We Need To Talk…

Our First Season was like new love… that first girlfriend. Two virgins fumbling around and hooking up together, finding our way. Neither of us knew what we were doing, and the unpredictability of it was delicious. We were both giddy, excited, and passionate… I looked forward to spending time with you. Every date was electrifying, a voyage of discovery and learning. We got to know each other, and found out about ourselves and where we were going at the same time. It was with difficulty that we parted ways – our last couple of hours together didn`t turn out well in spite of all the promise of the 8 months of buildup. Like most experiences of first love, it ended badly and painfully.

Then we had Season Two. It was a rebound relationshipRead the rest of this entry »

I Don`t Agree With Elizabeth May

Elizabeth May has a devout Christian belief system and would someday like to be an Anglican minister. While I can respect some of the values espoused, the whole zombie-ghost-invisible friend thing is more than I can take. I find deism and fideism to be ludicrous and silly. I don’t know what is “out there” – no one does. But I am pretty sure that if something is out there, it is not some kind of single supreme consciousness that grants wishes and ends lives based on his 1-800-PRAY-2-ME request line.

Elizabeth  May is against abortion. She personally has made statements to the effect that she does not believe women should have the right to choose abortion (and therefore have control over their own reproduction). Frankly, I find this attitude disgusting and unethical.

Elizabeth May over-exaggerates global warming issues and the human role in them. In one interview I watched her spout the discredited belief that global warming causes more hurricanes. While I believe we may play a part, it is not the part suggested by the IPCC and our effect is not nearly as significant as the extremists in the environmental movement would have us believe.

Elizabeth May is a politician. Some time ago, when she became leader of the Green Party of Canada, I wondered how long it would take for her to start skewing views to suit the party agenda instead of simply stating facts. It really didn’t take very long… Read the rest of this entry »

Oh No You Don’t

It might be too late, perhaps I have closed the barn door after the horses are gone… but…

I removed my Facebook account today. Or, as Facebook calls it “deactivated” it. I don’t know if it will be permanent but I am leaning that way. If you want to reach me in the meantime, try this.

Why oh why would I remove myself from the “trendiest” fad going? Well, I had completely ignored Facebook and MySpace when they came online… I always felt they were just vectors for being pestered by spammers and people I really didn’t want contact with. But last summer I broke down and signed up when I saw the wife making contact with many people she knew from school, and in a pang of nostalgia decided I would like to talk to some of those friends too. It annoyed the crap out of my from the start. Too many people would make contact, talk a little, get caught up and then vanish never to talk to me again. Just when I thought I was renewing old friendships I found out that what I was doing was simply touching base and then moving on again. That wasn’t MY intent, but apparently that’s all Facebook is to other people. Strike One.

Last night I pulled out ICQ again, a program I have not had installed on my PC since I rebuilt it into my upgraded package last year. I had it installed for a while before that as well without using it. On ICQ I found an old friend from way back in the BBS days who is also on Facebook and talked to him on ICQ. Rarely have we said much on Facebook but we chatted for some time on ICQ.

This really got me thinking: Read the rest of this entry »
