Regarding Twitter Faves/stars, therealcherilyn said in a post titled “No Mas”: it’s ridiculous how people pimp for stars and beg for the stars to make a, and i use this term loosely, “leaderboard”.
it’s pathetic that if one can’t get there on the merit of the tweet, one has to beg for more to get it there. does it deserve to be on a “leaderboard” if you have to beg for it to be?
in short, don’t dm me or beg me for stars. if i read it and like it, i’ll star it. i may even just send a dm because stars don’t signify a bookmark or a prop for funny anymore.
It is really NICE to be recognized for something you do.
It’s really nice when you make someone laugh to receive acknowledgement that you succeeded – in person you get that feedback from the person’s reaction (laughter, groan, etc). Online, you have to somehow be TOLD that you made someone laugh – with a star, an @ reply, or something else.
I used to view stars received as laughs, and gauged the reaction to my tweets accordingly. Then when I realized what was actually happening, I gave up on it. Many people weren’t showing appreciation for tweets or saying they laughed with stars, they were “doing you a favour” often because you starred one of THEIR tweets and “did them a favour”.
